Thank you, @Louise! I keep reminding myself that interacting and screwing up isn’t failure, the only failure is not trying (and then, of course, I’m super kind on myself during those times when it feels TOO hard and I DON’T engage) ! 🙂

Buy a small Spanish dictionary to carry with you. It doesn’t have to be Spanish/English, you can get an app to translate, you want a physical Spanish dictionary, it helps in the learning process.
The Spanish speaking folks I’ve met are very kind about teaching a “stranger in a strange land” how to get along, I’ve never failed to get a smile.
“Como se dice en Español?” is your friend.

Best I could do would be “sin carne” For some reason the first phrase that came to mind was almuerzo sin carne which may or may not be a normal way to say “Vegetarian lunch”
@Tudza, That DOES mean “vegetarian lunch.” And yup, I said “sin carne” as well, but it didn’t work either. I am so baffled as to what is happening in these conversations. Still! 🙂
You are being very courageous! Scared, but still going out and doing what needs to be done. Proud of you!
