New Readers…

Hello new Readers!

Most of the Spacetrawler comics kinda stand alone, but there is a story — and it’s fairly simple. So by reading this, you can jump right in (or, since it began only in January 2010 you can start from the beginning.)

The galaxy goes like this….

It is governed by the Galactic Organizational Body, or G.O.B., led by Kuu-Drahc, the “Apex Speaker”, and his guard, Growp.

The galaxy operates on technology far beyond the skill of anyone EXCEPT for the Eebs, who continue to build it. Unfortunately, the Eebs have very little will-power, and have been given “non-sentient” status in order to be bred and exploited at will.

2010-01-01-spacetrawler Interplanet Amity, or I.A., is a galactic activist group founded by Rickshaw Boans, with the ongoing mission to liberate the Eebs.

Rickshaw Boans, after liberating a ship full of Eebs, was last seen rocketing off to stars unknown. The story begins with Nogg, space outlaw, now leading the movement as captain of the I.A. Star Banger, with the crew of Krep, Gurf, and Cardinal62 (who has since passed away).

Nogg and his crew shanghai six humans from the six continents, to bring before the G.O.B. council, to claim Earth’s galactic seat. Once seated, they could put forth a motion to liberate the Eebs and define them as sentient.

The story is narrated after the fact by Nogg to Mr. Zorilla, the father of Martina Zorilla, first revealing that Martina has died.

How cheery.

So, that’s enough to start with if you wish to start reading from the beginning. But if you want to start at the present point, let me fill you in on a few more things.

Book 1 ended in disaster. The G.O.B. put Dustin (the idiot) in the Human Seat, and he quickly gave away Earth’s most valuable resources and renamed it “Dustinia,” Emily and Growp had a final fight resulting in his death, Nogg was captured by the G.O.B. and shipped off to the Mihrrgoot home planet in a ship full of dung, and the rest (now captained by Martina) escaped with their tails between their legs except for Pierrot who Emily left behind (along with a kiss) to clean up the mess Dustin had created.

Okay, now you can start reading from the present strip. Go for it.

  1. Fish

Read comic yesterday, but just noticed this page. [snark]So they captured one human for each of six continents?[/snark] (If it is unclear, or if using html-type brackets disappears text, I’m one of campaigners/sticklers for clearly defining “continent.”)
Nogg seems to have gone to normal Earth/Dustinian school, and later been confused: Japan is basically part of [strikethrough]Eur-[/strikethrough]Asian continent, as is Russia. Unless lake was somehow in Antarctica (one of best, least complicated claimants for continent status, being larger than Australia, possessing its own plate, and being separate “land mass” {“above-water” land (well, land above liquid water… above salt-water?)})…

  2. Christopher

Fish, excellent observation….. except that Russia is in both Asia and Europe. Dimitri is from the European side. Antarctica was left out as there are no real inhabitants, just visitors. Although, in hindsight, getting a Antarctica geeky scientist in would have been fun. 🙂

  3. Fish

Yeah, Russia is part of . . . Europe *twitch*. I meant to point out Antarctica’s lack of acknowledgement, and got waylaid by geologist influences. I guess it wouldn’t have worked to say, “Nogg and his crew shanghai six humans from the six continents that have both a significant human population and are viewed by the general human population as culturally, ethnically, and geographically distinct, to bring before the G.O.B. council, to claim Earth’s galactic seat,” given the intent of summary. No, to fix this, you must make a reference to global warming’s submergence of Antarctica. Or Lucas the strip (2010/01/25) when Dimitri gets picked up with different dialogue and digitally-enhanced snow. “Dimitri! Don’t! I’ve been told this lake has a self-sustaining community of endemic extremophiles.” “I’ve heard that TOO. You’d fracture your skull, and even the air temperature is deadly.” Actually, that’s probably why they didn’t take anyone from Antarctica – the candidate died before Nogg could stun them.

  4. Trawler Crawler

Just thought to suggest that you put in a blurb about the I.A. Star Banger since it is at least a minor character in the story. I was intrigued in the strip that said the ebbs built the space trawlers and no one else knows how to do that anymore. Made me recall at the time that I didn’t remember what was so special about ‘trawlers and think that maybe there’s going to be more in the story about their special uses (beyond being a simple conveyance for our crew up to this point). Anyway, just a thought.

  5. TreyMachiz

A friend of mine turned me on to your comic last week and i’ve already read them all! Your mother was right, referring you to all those great men! Anyway, just wanted to say thank-you for filling a Star Wars-ian sized hole in my life. 🙂

  6. Ada

I know someone from Argentina, where she was taught that there are five continents: Eurasia, the Americas, Africa, Australia, and Antarctica. So Fish is generalizing about how the general human population regards continents.
