I’m not sure if this is more a reflection of my concern about how the homeless are treated, or anxiety about making sure I have all my ducks in a row while visiting other countries. But both seem likely.

As Val and Audri get out of the escape pod on some random street, they are greeted by a police officer. He said, “I’m officer Onjie, welcome to Clentity. Have you booked a vacation here?” Val said, “No.” Office Onjie said, “Do you have a booked departure flight?” Audri said, “No.” Then officer Onjie said, “Do you have any funds with you?” Putting her hands on her sides, Val said, “No. What’s this all about?” Releasing a glowing cuff, which cuffs Val’s left hand to Audri’s right, officer Onjie said, “What it’s about is that you’re under arrest for vagrancy. you have the right to remain silent.” Pissed, Audri said, “What?!” Val, also pissed, said, “Okay! Fine! We’ll get back in our pod and return to the ship we just fled from.” Officer onjie said, “Heh. Everyone knows escape pods don’t work like that. They come down, they don’t go back up.” Turning to Val, Audri said, “Sounds like the balance of my bank account.” Val said, “Sounds like parts of my aging human body too numerous to mention.”

After the police identify them as Thoos and Picknar, it’s going to be fun when Titheron authorities, Gorend authorities, Markeron authorities, Thoos’ family, and four humans and a cat all show up to claim them.

Never mind the homeless. What about those the US military kidnaps for show trials on drug charges when the top guy just pardoned a billionaire cocaine smuggler? It’s not that there isn’t justice. It’s that the bad guys are in charge, and they want you to feel that. Rrreeeeeaaaaaal deep.
