Gerek got up, started walking, and said to Audri and Val, “Come on. Let’s find ourselves an escape pod.” Val said, “But that programmer said they were welded to the ship.” Gerek said, “Trust me. I didn’t save you before just to see you die now. Besides, don’t you want to find your bodies and get back into them?” Folding her arms, Val said, “Not any more. We decided it was a fool’s mission.” Looking back at them, Gerek said, “Listen, you can decide to give up, or decide that life is worth hoping for.” Audri exclaimed, “Decision made! We give up!” Gerek said, “Wrong takeaway, I…” and then he noticed two guards and said, “Oh, hold on. What’s this?” One of the guards said, “You three, turn back. No passengers beyond this point.” Gerek asked them, “When’s payday?” The second guard said, “Two days from now. And they’re paying us a lot.” Gerek crossed his arms and said, “Then get out of the way. This ship’s going to fly into your star tomorrow, so you’re not getting paid anyway.” The first guard pointed angrily at him and said, “No way are we moving! they even promised us a bonus and overtime!”
