01/12/23 Diary: Venus Bay

|

Title: Venus Bay Panel 1: Drawing of me mopping up huge puddles of water on the floor. Caption, "1/7/23 - It rains almost every day for about 2 minutes, but last night it was a torrent for about an hour. Since the main room has no walls, it took me about an hour to mop up the lakes." -- Panel 2: Drawing of me driving a jeep. Caption, "1/8/23 - For the first time since returning the rental car, I took the jeep out. I needed to buy dog food, which is too big for my backpack (and heavy!)" -- Panel 3: Drawing of my left hand using my laptop, anchoring itself with my pinky on the side of the laptop, and a second drawing of my pinky and ring-finger tied together with a velcro cord organizer. Caption, "Unconsciously I've been anchoring my left hand as I work with my pinky on the side of my laptop, and it has begun to hurt a lot. So I "buddy taped" it with a velcro cord organizer, which seems to be helping." -- Panel 4: Drawing of me in Venus Bay, looking out at the Atlantic. Caption, "1/9/23 - Since I'm now driving the jeep, I took it and went back to the Boven, solo this time, and hiked up and down to Venus Bay. So nice to sit and watch the big waves roll in." -- Panel 5: Drawing of me reading at a bar and smiling. Caption, "I took myself out on a solo "date," which meant walking down to see the night ocean in Oranjestad Bay, and then read ("Gastronomical me") at Cool Corner with a beer." -- Panel 6: Drawing of me in town, looking at my lit-up cell phone. Caption, "On the way home I got slight nerve-wracking news about Willoweep 2. It looks like I'm finally about to start drawing it!" -- Panel 7: Drawing of me looking up at the chandelier, which is swarming with moths. Caption, "1/10/23 - A swarm of moths attacked the lights last night (ah, the joys of no walls). So I turned off the lights and sat in the dark." -- Panel 8: Drawing of me looking at the shore of the ocean from the house where I'm staying. Caption, "1/12/23 - Since the ocean is visible and "right there" from my house, I finally walked to it. Since it was so close I was skeptical that it would actually be a full 20 minute walk (it was, at minimum)." -- Panel 9: Drawing of me on a cliff overlooking the Atlantic. Caption, "To see it, I had to walk an additional 100 feet past two "no trespassing" signs. I don't think anyone would have cared, but next time I'll try to find a different access."
