09/04/13 Martina’s Funeral

|

I am so buried in work, getting the book ready for press. Today I pencilled, colored, and inked for 12 hours straight. My fingers hurt!

And I’ve been noodling around with ideas with my good friend Fred, regarding the strip after the Spacetrawler extension ends. He actually knows his science, which is a breath of fresh air (greased dark-light speed? really?) and so we’ve been talking about a theoretical SlingShot drive. Fun stuff. (Speaking of Fred, he’s looking for work in the Albuquerque area. If you know of any jobs he can do there or online, he’s a trained Science teacher and is also good at research, advocacy, sales, recruitment — contact me and I’ll put you in touch!)

And winter jackets! If any of you are thinking ahead for winter, and are interested in getting cruelty free (don’t use ANY animal products) coats etc, the amazing Voute Couture is releasing it’s new line today (wednesday, they’re guessing early afternoon) and is having a 50% off sale for the first 24 hours. A lot of lovely designs, and a good philosophy, check ’em out!

And thank you for not resurrecting her or keeping her from being dead. It is sad, but she did what was necessary to stop a great evil. Let’s hope it inspires others to do the right thing.

Wanted to take a minute and say how much I have enjoyed Spacetrawler. Very entertaining story, looked forward to it every week. Story does a great job of striking that difficult and fine balance between being complex enough to be enjoyable yet simple enough so that when delivered over a couple of years, key details haven’t been forgotten.

    Thank you.

Beautiful and heartfelt; the comic is a little goofy in places despite occasionally heavy subject matter, but I think this page, this particular one, is just about perfect in striking the balance between absurd humor and dark emotional content. It all pivots so perfectly on this blunt, emotional eulogy. I really appreciate it. The completely ungraceful, awkward, inappropriate degaussing-spring noise of the casket getting launched really puts the punctuation mark on this sad, funny, awkward scene.

You’ve met my brother-in-law from New Jersey, haven’t you? I think you must have, because he’s the only other person I know who could have come up with a eulogy like that. And I say that entirely affectionately.

Loving the Comix as usual – everything I would have said is already written above.

    About the link though ….
Not to be a spoilsport, but – using synthetics and products of the chemical industrie instead of wool might be free of animal cruelty, but I belive it shortsightet nonetheless.

The stuff degrades very slowly, its processing is quite toxic and its resources are in no way renewable – just to spare poor little sheep to be shorn *shrug*.
Although I am living a vegetarian lifestyle and trying to buy animal products outside of industrial *production* – I never got animal rights people.
Low-impact ecological living will not be possible without the utilization of animals.
How we treat them to gain – for example wool – can of course difer enourmously.
Just dont belive the use of synthetics is the way….

Thanks for the wonderful story and art. Excuse me while I wipe away a few tears. It’s been quite some time since a story has drawn me in as emotionally and intellectually as this one has. Thanks again!
