I think I’m wired to want to adopt a baby Boult.

I approve of this clever joke.

In other news – this is a weird plan. Also, MILLIONS of species? That suggests millions of test babies, which in turn suggests a gargantuan general population (or everybody’s really on board with the plan), and incredible influence/power. Also, millions of species, and they’re somehow as-yet unknown officially? With the kind of “stealth” we saw in the intro?

I’m immune! Puppies have never appealed much to me, especially those that are flat-faced with snub noses. Now if the Strib looked like lion cubs, I’d be totally unable to resist.

Pomeranians (which I have had for over 20 years now) look a LOT like baby lions, regardless of age. Piles are smaller, as are puddles. 🙂

And they are fine with ME doing dinner so they don’t have to chase down chickens. Or those giant dogs that visit from the fields now and then. (Deer)(which like to watch them bounce around and bark at them. Which isn’t aggressive; it’s more like a “let’s have a playdate”.)

I want to know more about the Grinklepoks of Kedge. Are they a warrior people, or just a bunch of fit, attractive urbanites? I imagine they all cycle everywhere, but aren’t pretentious about it.

Having said that, this isn’t really a strike against the story – I’m fully onboard with people (humans and aliens) doing kind of dumb things in Space Trawler. I also suspect it won’t be quite that simple. 🙂

… Or it is that simple and the Strib have personal and possibly dumb reasons for not using robots.

Either way, I’m on board. 🙂

I think they DID try robots. At first. But protestations aside, robots can appear amusing, or caring, or loving, but it’s only an appearance. The robots would have had no emotional connection to the Strib pups, and so you would have a group of emotionally-damaged Strib that would have to be put down. THAT’s when they started looking at other species as nannies.

Suddenly, I flashed on the character of “Ego” in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, getting all these females over the galaxy to bear his children so he can destroy everything. Like Ego, the Strib don’t care about what the effects on other lifeforms are or will be: they want what they want and will kill as many as needed to get what they want.

Yep. It’s the same scam, with possibly the same long-term effect. The concept of cowbird aliens pushing out the children of all other races — or even just HUMAN children — nauseates me. Mind, now, the symbiont was a hard act to follow, but strib parasitism is in a realm by itself. This isn’t just hedonistic laziness. It’s parasitic genocide.

Somebody tell Emily. She’ll know what to do with the situation.
