Welcome to a new week! I hope it’s a good one for you.

I think they should stick to the rule and not mention to the Cadre what they thought they shouldn’t mention. Apologizing for something no one knows about tends to end badly.

Ha, ha! The unlooked-for good result! I’d say Diller’s luck is working just fine. Can’t say the same about Diller herself, though. Vacuum tends to be kind of unforgiving, even if beams, missiles and shrapnel aren’t passing through it at the same time.

I have to wonder how far back Diller ended up after leaving the ship. Some science fiction speculates that it’s like being sucked out a plane window, and you’re left behind at the rate the ship was going, gradually or suddenly slowing down to sub-relativistic speeds — which itself can be kind of rough.

Jump drive universes are worse. Either you drop into normal space in some Godforsaken remote location, far from a system and maybe not even on a straight line from departure point to destination — and again suffer severe decelleration — or, as in the Star Wars universe, you get dumped into hyperspace and can never leave, let alone be found. Decelleration is not an issue then, but running out of air and strangling, alone and much, much later, definitely is. Oh, and sometimes you go mad from being in non-Euclidian space where your senses work against you and the laws of physics slowly break down inside your head. No pleasant end that way, either.

Going to be interesting to see whether/when Diller’s luck prevents her from being a space corpsicle drifting in the cosmos or some other result obtains. Hey, Captain America survived seventy years frozen in the Arctic icepack. Maybe Diller can be restored from a freeze-dried withered brittle stick, two or three centuries from now. Depends on how sophisticated GOB search-and-rescue is.

GOB SAR — ready or not!
