Not the kind of links you golf at.

Looking down at his cuffs, Knox said to Spizz, “Why are we really wearing these cuffs? I don’t like it. Did you lie about us wearing them for our safety?” Spizz pressed a button on a remote control, and instantly all of their cuffs locked together, then chains lowered fro the ceiling and linked up to them. Spizz said, “Yes.” Smiling, Rodrigo said to Spizz, “Be gentle. I was recently shot with a projectile through the shoulder.” Spizz pressed another button on the remote control and it violently yanked Rodrigo’s arms towards the ceiling, and he let out a small “Eeee.” Then, with a grimace, Rodrigo managed to whimper, “Thank you.” Spizz turned away, unimpressed, and said, “No problem.”

Okay, time to hang around for a while, smoke ‘em if you got ‘em.
Too late to beat anything.
I wonder if Puurloin is going to rescue them? Cats have ways- – –
I was thinking the same thing. Having received the chip it has remained suspiciously quiet all this time. Our cat is very vocal.
I’d enjoy a cat powered rescue, but Purrloin also got security cuffs put on (https://www.baldwinpage.com/spacetrawler/2025/02/05/020525-new-security/) and in the second panel of todays strip, on the right side is a special chain that divides into 4, presumably just to chain our brave feline up.
Not the kind of links that are a side at breakfast either.
“Safety” and “security” are close enough for fuzzy translation by the chips.
Shouldn’t Thoos have known what the cuffs were?
Maybe they managed to avoid seeing this side of the operation, until now. Would fit, really.
Thoos doesn’t strike me as the sort of person who pays attention to details like “Do my parents make guests wear cuffs?”
I think you both would be absolutely correct, Nemo and Kirt! In this case, my intention was when Spizz mentioned that they were for a “new security system,” which I hoped implied that it was after Thoos’s time. https://www.baldwinpage.com/spacetrawler/2025/02/05/020525-new-security/
I still dunno. There’s ‘security’ that keeps noxious elements at bay, and allows the creation of a safe space in which to conduct normal business, live, and relax.
Then there’s ‘security’ that seeks out those who might be a threat to those who don’t want walls around them, nor enemies, and removes them. Not just their weapons or ideas. Them personally. They get particularly hostile when people mistake their ‘security’ for aggression, and have such people dealt with accordingly.
The Starslicks apparently don’t have any other concept of ‘security’ than the second. And are particularly sensitive about being challenged on it. The question now is to what degree they will make threats to them suffer. Not to keep them away, mind. They’re now threats in captivity and it could be entertaining to see how long a time, and how much suffering it takes, to make them die.
My safeword is mayonaise- – – –
What will they do to the protagonists? Depends on how badly they want their daughter back. It’s highly ironic that she’s back, but they don’t believe that.
