Even as an adult, binoculars seem kind of magical. I imagine space ones would be SO much stronger and prolly with an image stabilizer. 🙂
And I just got the comp copies for “The Nefarious Nights of Willowweep Manor” which look great! Due out TUESDAY August 12, written by Shaenon Garrity and pubbed by Simon & Schuster/Margaret K. McElderry Books, so is available at any bookstore online or brick-n’-mortar!

Picknar handed Rodrigo a pair of binoculars and said, “Want a closer look?” He looked through them, and could zoom in incredibly close, seeing the pupils of the eyes of the grey titer. Then they all took off on their hover bikes, and he continued to look through them, at alien butterflies and lizards. Knox said, “Wre those binoculars really that fascinating?” Rodrigo grinned and said, “If an adult had tried to grab these from my five-year-old self, they’d be an amputee. I had strong teeth.”

I use stabilized 18 power binoculars. Now, EVERYBODY borrows them. They won’t even bother getting theirs out! They really are amazing.
Yeah, once you use really good binoculars it’s hard to go back. I have a pair of Bausch and Lomb naval binoculars from 1943. It cost about three times what I paid for them to get them professionally restored but totally worth it. There is still a point beyond which I can’t tell the difference and so spending more money isn’t worth it but the B&L’s beat anything I’ve seen in a sporting goods store.
I took an ornithology class in college. Basically birdwatching several hours a day. Kinda fun to have an excuse the wear binoculars everywhere.
That’s so cool to finally hold the new Willowweep book in your hands. Congrats!
@Jeff, Yeah, feels SOOO good! 🙂
Can hardly wait to hold a new Willowweep in my hands … pre-ordered months ago. Congrats Christopher!
Amazon says my copy is showing up tomorrow!
Does leaving on the hoverbikes really count as moving slowly, or will the grey titers attack?
@Ada_K, they started slowly on the hoverbikes and then sped up. Picknar knows about them, and Thoos is old hat at this. 🙂
I am still quite content with the Nikon 7×50 marine binoculars I have had since about 1980. 🙂
I’ve included binox in my work that include the ability to judge the approach speed of an object and relay that to remote viewers. Then I calculated what Zeiss would charge for a pair and got real quiet.
Zeiss makes great kit, and they know it.
I am now 1/4 way through the Nefarious Nights of Willow Weep Manor:)
It’s great, Christopher! Lots of fun, with entangled dimensional science and gothic/who killed the butler humor. Great artwork! I don’t believe there is anything else remotely like it. Congratulations!
Sob! Here I sit, knowing that my copy of the new Willowweep is caught up in some kind of amazon shipping snafu and did not arrive today. Hopefully it will get here by the end of the week.
