Speaking of Peru… I’m soon taking a trip to the southern cone of South America. Leaving Oct 2. Chile, Uruguay, Peru. Not sure what else. Studying Spanish like mad. And I’ll be doing long stays, so there at least 6 months, which means I am renting long-term stays and so it won’t cost much more in the end than staying home. Excited and terrified.
Oh, and there should be NO interruption of comics, in fact I am planning on starting the journal comic again.
Um… yeah. Did I mention “excited and terrified”?

Still in bed, Jo said, “Give us a moment to get dressed, okay?” As Lasper and Val left the room, Val said, “And in my bed. Hrumph.” Out in the living room, Val sighed. Lasper said, “Is there anything you’d like to take with us?” Val pulled a photo off the tv stand and said, “No. These objects here, they belong to her. Valerie. Not to me. I don’t know who I am anymore.” Pointing at the photo, Lasper said, “Are you the dark-haired short one, or the tall one with big eyes and pointy ears?” Val hollered, “I was in Peru. The tall one is an alpaca, thank-you-very-much.”

And now we see Val experiencing actual transpecies anomie because her physical self is not who she grew up with, nor sees in the mirror. A natural response to confronting this very strange transposition of selves.
Like Lasper’s identification of Val’s llama as a fellow sapient. Given the Galaxy he hails from, perfectly natural and logical observation. Now I need to get more popcorn.
Based on what we’ve seen, probably all the alpaca needs is a translation chip.
