Audri.” Feeling suspicious, Nick said, “You don’t sound like Audri.” Audri said, “I’ve been… in a bit of an accident. It affected my appearance, and my voice.” Testing her, Nick said, “What’s the middle name of my stuffed penguin?” Audri said, “Clem.” Nick asked, “And why’d I name her that?” Audri said, “Really? You want me to say it out loud? Clem. Short for Clementine. Because it was “pithy” you said, and you thought that play-on-words was hilarious.” Nick said, “Heh. I’m still amazed that I came up with such a funny reason.” Willing to go along with this, Audri said, “Sure.”

Nick seems to be taking Audri’s shifted shape in stride. Now comes the hard part: Making an emotional connection. And figuring out what comes after that. You know, before the crazed right-wingers find she’s come back.
I suspect he can’t see Audri yet, only hear her.

At first I was searching for some penguin-clementine joke; but it’s just a clementine joke. As in, the fruit. Citrus fruits have pith, so Clementine is pith.
