10/15/25 – Reversibility

|

Purrloin stood on her back paws and placed her front paws on the medi-bot's chest. Purrloin said, "Please, by all my worshipped ancestors from Egypt, you have to remove this translator chip." The medi-bot said, "I'm afraid it's not reversible. Yes it's a 'chip' but it fuses to your brain and becomes an organic part, overriding your previous language orientation. There's nothing I can do. It was designed that way so language couldn't be taken away from people out of retribution or to control them." Getting angry and extending her claws, Purrloin said, "You're fucking kidding me. Just string me up by my collar, why don't you! Fine. But don't you dare tell anyone I can talk and that we had this conversation. Or I swear I will bite your diodes so hard that they'll be passing currents in both directions." Purrloin then left the room, returned to the bridge, and began drinking a limbic sizzler that was sitting there.

I hope the medi-bot realizes that by not actively protesting, that it just made a blood oath.

People who gain new abilities often try to give them up because they’re overwhelmed and don’t want to work at learning how to use them. They’re not used to hearing, or seeing colors, or speaking other languages, and don’t wanna. It’s why enhancements like VR and glasses that correct color blindness end up in the closet.

    1. I mean, the glasses that “correct” colorblindness don’t actually do any such thing — they have a strong marketing game (to the point of lying and posting scripted videos) and that’s… about it. The reason they end up unused is because they don’t have the advertised functionality.

Wild speculation: Purloin will lose patience with Mr. “Fixed Idea”, currently brawling in the art museum, and blurt out just how stupid he is. This will finally convince Spizz he’s wrong, and permanently endear Purloin to Thoos.
