10/27/25 – England

As they raced on their hoverbikes among the rocks, Rodrigo swung and whacked one of the grey titers chasing them with the empty bottle of wine. Knox said, "Good hit! I knew you had it in you!" Hitting another, Rodrigo said, "I got pretty good at cricket during my time in England." Knox said, 'Another secret! When the hell were you in England?!" Grinning, Rodrigo said, "During the time I was at oxford." Knox yelled, "What?! When the hell were you student there?!" Looking guilty, Rodrigo said, "Actually I wasn't a student." Rodrigo then emailed as her recalled, "But I stayed there because of a boy. and because of the libraries of course. read a lot. The other boys made me feel quite welcome, actually." Some rocks divided the path, and Knox and Rodrigo suddenly had to swerve away on another path uphill. Knox said, "By the way, that swerve and coming up here wasn't planned." Rodrigo said, "Talk of not planned, you should hear how I got there. I'm still not allowed back in the grim sailors pub in New Jersey."

It’s taking a LONG time drawing this hoverbike scene, but I have to say, I’m REALLY enjoying it. 🙂

Reminds me that I wasn’t a student at Wesleyan University, but was a member of its science fiction club, and played D&D there, and Colossal Cave on the computers. I may have met Joss Whedon there, but I think I just missed him. He probably didn’t base any Buffy characters on me.

Oh, hey, Coyoty, I also spent time (4 years) hanging around the campus of Wesleyan University, to the point that there were some folks who thought I was a student there. I was actually a graduate student elsewhere, but was living in Middletown for Reasons…

  2. It is probably a bit mean of me to do this, but if Rodrigo has really spent time in Oxford, it would definitely be ‘libraries’, plural. Even the famous Bodleian is a thing of several parts on more than one site.

Of course, if he’s spinning Knox a beautiful line of falsehood this might be fine and I’ve spoiled everything. But if he said ‘libraries’ that could still be true 🙂

The question is, is it “Grim Sailers,” or “Grim Sailors”? One thing New Jersey has is a lot of pleasure sailers (who go about it grimly), and a lot of merchant marine sailors (naturally grim), so it could be either.

Splendid fight on the backs of fire-spewing hoverbikes. And in the middle of it — division of the defenders, and a story! Excellent! But I think I’d better get a popcorn refill now; I think Wednesday I won’t have time.
