-Guard number two let Val and Thoos enter an empty prison cell while saying, “And here we are. The cells. Go in and you can see how absolutely impenetrable they are. I’ll wait out here so you can ‘focus.'” Val and Thoos entered, with Val saying, “Actually, it’d be more helpful to see a cell that’s in use. Do you have any new prisoners, like for instance a prof-” And then the door locked behind them. Thoos shouted, “Hey! What’re you doing?! We don’t need the door locked to do our work, ya’ know!” The voice of Knucklar came from the other side of the door, saying, “Hello, I’m Knucklar. I’m in charge of this prison.” Val said through the door, “And it’s such a good one. Yeah. These walls are really strong. You can let us out now.” Knucklar said, “Well, you’d better get used to it, Flechkt and Poobly.” Thoos asked, “What do you mean?” Knucklar said, “Or should I say, ‘Audri and Picknar.'” Thoos said, “Ah.” Val said, “It’s amazing how both right and wrong you are.” Thoos sat down on the edge of a bed and said, “Well, at least this was a success of sorts. Now we know that simply using disguises won’t work.” Hitting a button on a device she held, Val said, “Caught in only seventeen minutes, I’m feeling so successful.”

On the bright side, if the rest of the group succeeds in busting out the Professor, getting Val and Thoos too shouldn’t be much more difficult.
So Val literally had her own device, that she kept secret from Thoos. Someone DID have a plan, involving Thoos getting them into the prison without knowing the real plan, and Val is signaling the others.
Either that or it’s a stopwatch, marking 17 minutes.
