birdfeeder

Who needs aliens, when I can’t even understand birds. We have two bird feeders on the same side of the house. One of them, the birds empty in about three days. The other remains untouched. I’ve moved the untouched one closer and closer, and now they are about three feet from each other, but still, seeming no luck. Hrm.

Anyhow, you may have noticed, I added a “Formspring.com ask me stuff” widget on the bottom-right of this page. Not that you couldn’t ask me questions here in the comments. But there it is. All linked up to my Twitter account and (if I ever get the connection to work) onย my Facebook account.

Happy Cinco De Mayo. Drive safe. :)

  1. I’m really beginning to get into the hang of the strip!!! ( thought you should know).

actually, we have until Wednesday off in Mexico because of 5 de mayo. It is kind of a big deal though independence was on the 16 th of september. In fact, this year we celebrate 100 years of revolution and 200 years of independence from Spain.

I don’t know if I should be asking this here but I want the Bruno books!!!!! Any chance they are still for sale?

  2. Thanks, Seth!

And Bruno books ARE still available. The “Store” link is in the upper-right (just below the calendar).

Cinco de Mayo here means drinking Caronas (and in Arizona it means you get to be arrested). Just like St. Patrick’s Day means drinking Guinness. Fun!

Drawing on an Earth analogue, do you think they’ll reach their destination before the Special Subcommittee on Dark Planet Species Recognition decides to break for the holidays, seeing as how some of their members have already caught early flights home? I mean, if anyone came in with any REALLY IMPORTANT STUFF not only would it be highly unlikely (these are dark planets, after all) but calling members back would really be a hassle and spoil a lot of peoples reservations, which would make some of the members “miffed”. Besides, people can always bring up new business after the Committee reconvenes, which won’t be THAT long…

Ooooh, I can see Krep dealing with Chief Assistant Secretary to the Keeper of the Calendar for the Special Subcommittee now. A battle royal, dimmed only by the knowledge that the Bureaucracy Always Wins. Most of the time.

Muzhik. Awesome ideas. I can’t tell you enough how much ideas like that get my brain going. It might be the seed which tangents and entire arc, or I may not use an ounce of it. But it doesn’t matter, it forces me see it all from different angles. Thank you. ๐Ÿ™‚

Heh. Alien technology also uses windows (not Windowsยฎ mind you, just the concept of a window)
Also, Galaga: The politically-correct version of Space Invaders (correct for other aliens, at least) ๐Ÿ˜€

As for the birdfeeders, from what I’ve seen most birds find food by following other birds (the logic apparently is that if the other bird made it back alive, it must be safe to eat there; no indicaiton on how good the food is though). So, until the first bird goes to the untouched birdfeeder, no others will follow because they don’t know if it’s safe to eat there.

hey Matt! She got her shoulder blown off and replaced with a mechanical shoulder.

To see: right above the comments here, you can click on the “Yuri” tag, and see that it is mentioned in both her last two appearances, and then her appearance before that is where it gets blown off.

I REALLY love the tag feature of wordpress. ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. Both feeders have the same seed? They’re matching feeders? Oriented the same way? Hmmm Maybe they’re too close together? If it’s true what Frank said, maybe try placing them side by side to form one big feeder to get the “bird essence” on both of them, and then relocate the unvisited one. Very weird. LOL

BTW, I’m enjoying Space Trawler and looking forward to Dee starting over. Thanks!

@Christopher, if you’ve EVER spent ANY time in academia, battles like that are a normal part of a day’s work. The less power one has, the more vicious the attack; the more experienced one becomes the less blood one draws while inflicting greater pain.

Krep would just say “Screw this!” and start waling away. Krep would never become more than an Associate Instructor. (And a part-time one at that.)

(Although I’d LOVE to see the end-of-term student evaluations of his performance…)

  9. Christopher

    @Muzhik – sounds like family. ๐Ÿ™‚

Actually, it reminds me of something funny I heard/read recently (don’t recall where), that the battles is academia are the most fierce and cruel of all because they are about so little.

One would think that with all the information the aliens collected, it would be blatantly obvious that Yuri was the hacker. It’d ruin the entire strip, but yeah. Also, do they have any reliable information on Dustin at all, besides what they’ve learned since he awoke?

  11. Danna

Weird. I’m trying to think about this–if someone had info on me, and they didn’t want me to see it, what could that possibly be? Whatever Yuri’s reading, I think it has to be worse than a plain breach of privacy. I mean, the humans have already been abducted and they’ve practically gotten used to the idea; finding out, “We’ve been spying on you since childhood”, or whatever, couldn’t upset them much worse. Yuri makes it sound like the results of their personality tests, but she could be kidding?
