For any of you who are professionals studying in the field, I apologize if my use of PTSD related terminology isn’t 100% correct (but I did enough research that  hopefully it’s in the right ballpark).

Hmmmm. Now we’ve had one character “cured” of their gender dysphoria by alien tech, and another “cured” of their PTSD by alien means. I wonder if this is part of some overarching theme, or just plot coincidence.

I don’t know that I would call Chiphu “cured” just yet. We haven’t seen them attempt a relationship with anyone aside from just living with the other crew members. They have a different morphology but they are still the same person inside. Describing the things that would moderate the PTSD is probably pretty accurate (I’ve been out of the psychology biz for a few years). What the symbiont describes is deeply invasive down to the level of surgery on individual cells. The scary bit is that the symbiont could just tweak his memories to make him a bit more accepting or whatever else fit the symbionts motives. On another level, the Cowardly Lion now has his courage. Lots of Wizard of Oz themes in this plotline.

Crouching behind my chair now. Watching carefully. If there’s one thing PTSD is known for, it’s finding new triggers. Endocrine surgery or no. The day Tesfay sees somebody accidentally step on a chicken, BAM! It can all be undone. Or a duck.
