It’s always time for a good rousing song, don’t you think?

I still very much like how the ship seems to actually like our Coyote. Wonder if it is a matter of how little regard the Stribs have for seemingly everyone and everything. Maybe they are all low grade sociopaths? Much rather that be the case rather than the ship simply being a slave to its programing.

The Spacetrawler also really likes Ruddock and said he was the best captain it had ever had. Ruddock asked the Strib ship why spaceships like him so much. The ship answered, “What’s not to like? ” Even Choan has wondered how Ruddock gets ships to cooperate so easily. It’s a mystery.

In 1981 when I went to work for IBM right out of school, I worked second shift. All of us were in the same boat. It didn’t take us long to find out IBM used to have a song they no longer sung. But we learned it and sang it at our lunch time anyway. Ever Onward IBM! So, yes, it was good to have a song to sing. 🙂

Go, ye heroes, go to glory,
Though you die in combat gory,
Ye shall live in song and story.
    Go to immortality!
    Go to death, and go to slaughter;
    Die, and every Cornish daughter
With her tears your grave shall water.
Go, ye heroes, go and die!
    – W S Gilbert (from “The Pirates of Penzance”)

    “Forward the Light Brigade!”
    Was there a man dismayed?
    Not though the soldier knew
    Someone had blundered.
    Theirs not to make reply,
    Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to do and die.
    Into the Valley of Death
    Rode the six hundred.

    –Alfred, Lord Tennyson

In case you wondered, only 195 effectives came back from the engagement. Which greatly enhanced the reputation of British cavalry, but not that of their commanders.
