Let me answer that inner-debate FOR you, Gerek: you should.

Gerek put his hands up in protest and said, “No. We must part. I won’t endanger you for my own choice of risks.” Throwing her hands in the air, Val said, “fine! You’ve said your stated boundaries! I’ll respect them! But I don’t like it. And I will feel forever grateful and in your debt.” Smiling, Audri asked, “want me to play you a battle anthem, Gerek?” Gerek paused to consider this, and then unenthusiastically said, “sure.” Audri proceeded to enthusiastic ring her six handbells, as her tongue lolled out. Val asked, “‘I will survive’ by Gloria Gaynor?” Audri said, “I mean, not because i’m working through heartbreak, it’s simply a great song!” Gerek said, “I’m trying to decide if I feel inspired or not.”

There was a whole series of books about a family of necromancers tasked with maintaining the border between life and death. They had bandoliers of magic bells.
I think the series was by Garth Nix? Good books.
Yep. The Old Kingdom series. Pretty good books, it’s been a while since I read them though.
Lurch did the best cover of that song.
Keeping time, time, time,
As he knells, knells, knells,
In a happy Runic rhyme,
To the rolling of the bells—
Of the bells, bells, bells—
To the tolling of the bells,
Of the bells, bells, bells, bells—
Bells, bells, bells—
To the moaning and the groaning of the bells.
I really hope human form Audri plays the bells with a big, goofy grin and her tongue lolling out.
Sadly, no.
@Dr. Moosen McMoose and @Efogoto, I’ve been REALLLLY thinking I should go back and alter that so that she does.
It’s only a one or two panel update. Just sayin’.
On the other hand, I do not mean to make light of your efforts. I have no idea how much time it takes to do all you do, so what seems minor to me may not be. I would enjoy seeing Audri having fun ringing the bells though.
I am delighted that you went back and changed that!
Just trying to decide whether “I Will Survive” makes a better battle anthem than “Spongebob Squarepants.” On second thought, I think I won’t.
