06/10/26 – Stupider Things

|

Rodrigo continued his story, "Both Roger and I ended up being excellent navigators, and found our way back. But three other boys in our troop got lost. One got hypothermia, and the two others started a forest fire while trying to light a smoke-signal fire. I suppose one could infer that the point of the story is: even when things end in miserable disaster, it can still be worth it for the time spent with the people involved." And then Rodrigo added, "And no matter how foolish you act, remember that others are probably doing even stupider things." They looked at each other, and then Rodrigo clinked their glasses together and they both smiled kindly. Rodrigo returned towards the chip, and Picknar, looking a little less upset, stayed looking up at the stars.

Honestly, Rodrigo is a bit of my mouthpiece here, I don’t think I can think of better advice.

Deep down under our skins there is flesh and blood
    That we’re all brothers
Now you may join the Elks, my friend
And I may join the Shriners
And other men may carry cards
    As members of the Diners
Still others wear a Golden Key
    Or small Greek letter pin
But I have learned there’s one great club
That all of us are in

There is a brotherhood of man
    A benevolent brotherhood of man

    One man may seem incompetent
    Another not make sense
While others look like quite a waste
    Of company expense
    They need a brother’s leadership
So please don’t do them in
    Remember mediocrity
    Is not a mortal sin
    They’re, we’re
    In, in
    The, the
    Brotherhood of man

Sorry. Seized by the spirit of Robert Morse in this moment.
