Neat things these days. Ursula K LeGuin has begun blogging. Shaenon Garrity lists the Ten Things to Know about the Future of Comics. And my mind has now tasted Giga Pudding. I think there was more, but I’ve been preoccupied with nursing two cats back to health and a bit out of it.

In my real life, this past Thursday I went and saw the band Little Wings (opening, after Campfire OK, for Breathe Owl Breathe). And afterwards got to say hello to Kyle Field (who essentially IS Little Wings) and his guitarist for this tour, who’s name I forgot, but I think it is Brett Simundson. Both were super-nice and Brett took a picture of Kyle and I. It was really a pleasure, especially since these past few years I’ve been playing the Little Wings album “Magic Wand” more than any other album. If you wish to check them out, I suggest that album obviously, or their current tour with Breathe Owl Breathe:

Wednesday, Oct. 27 – Santa Barbara, CA @ Muddy Waters Café w/ Little Wings
Thursday, Oct. 28 – Los Angeles, CA @ Bootleg Theater w/ Little Wings
Friday, Oct. 29 – Phoenix, AZ @ Trunk Space w/ Little Wings
Saturday, Oct. 30 – Tucson, AZ @ Solar Culture w/ Little Wings

Oh, and have I mentioned I will be tabling with Topatoco at NEWW in Easthampton, MA in a week and a half (Nov 6th & 7th)? Well, I will be.

“But Mommm, I hate Fleet Commanding!” Truer words were never spoken. One of those jobs that anyone who really know that they were doing would never want to do.
Does Martina have a different outfit for every page? If so, she should consider doing a “The President’s Analyst” kind of thing and change every panel the way the two spys did during their dialog.

  2. Gurf’s goals may be different from his mother’s but I don’t think she’s necessarily smarter than he is. Being happy to be a grunt instead of a commander doesn’t mean he couldn’t do it. He just doesn’t want to.

@stevegallacci, not every page, but Martina does change clothes usually every scenario. She likes clothes. Actually, perhaps more amazing, is that the others don’t. 🙂

@Leslie and Coyoty, perhaps both have truth. I might say Gurf is more simple-minded (although perhaps in ways better at getting things done) but also Gurf is smarter about pursuing what makes him happy.

  4. No way! The Le Guin? Blogging? …I’ll get back to you on that….

Halip, you should’ve asked him to become a politician! He’d be right at home

Lastly, I like how you have Martina saying “I need a powder”; reminds me of this Spanish cartoon that went

Man: ¿Estás listo niño? (Are you ready, kid?)
Girl: (nods resolutely, but stops suddenly) ¡Aaah! ¡Tengo que haer popo! (Ahhh! I gotta poop!)
Man: ¡Qué grosera eres! ¡Se dice “tengo que usar el tocador”! (You’re so rude! You’re supposed to say, “I have to powder my nose!”)

@JKCarroll, I swear, next year I’ll have a tiny bit more time and will be cooking more again. Maybe. Probably not. Sigh.

@Nentuaby, “thickwittedness” is a most excellent word!

Martina: “[…] secure Uranus mining rights […]”
Emily: “I gotta use the can.”

There’s GOTTA be a joke in there somewhere.

I love the Spacetrawler. And I think I would like some fleet commanding!

@stevegallacci, regarding Martina’s clothing changes (and fan-TAS-tic fashion sense, I might add):

Remember: Nogg captured Martina by hiding in her wardrobe. https://www.baldwinpage.com/spacetrawler/2010/01/13/

@Christopher, As for “time for cooking”, don’t you have a girlfriend lurking about somewhere? Couldn’t SHE take over the drawing and writing for a couple of days? I mean, it can’t be THAT hard!

(duck and cover, duck and cover…)
