If there’s any good thing about Trump, is that most of the nation now knows what “gaslighting” is and might have a better chance of avoiding relationships where it is present.

You can’t gaslight Bikke, he’ll smack you just for the hell of it. And as we learned in Star Trek “Savage Curtain” both sides may use the same tactics, but he outcome is very different. So if you first meet them they may not be immediately identifiable…

The translator bugs came up with a similar analogy to what Jibbz was actually saying. Hwan was probably hearing “chaotic neutral”, while Bikkie heard something about crazy wetas, while Jansler heard another analogy.

Or maybe, like gin and tonic or Swedish meatballs, every culture in the universe has a version of D&D in it.

Well, I for one didn’t know what gaslight in meant. I’m Canadian and very grateful not to live in the States. I keep up on news by reading rather than TV, and mostly world news. But I avoid anything to do with Trump. I can read the headlines as it pertains to him and I don’t want to know more about him. He’s a malicious manipulative buffoon (the 2nd definition according to Mirriam-Webster “a gross and usually ill-educated or stupid person acting like a ridiculous buffoon”). Learning about anything he does only makes me feel anger so I don’t bother.

The actual definition of “gaslighting” is trying to convince a sane person that they’re crazy. It’s based on a play called “Gaslight.”

It’s widely spread throughout the political world on all sides, and more than a few headlines have this as a goal as well. Most unfortunately, we can’t take the Bikkie approach, and have to settle for seeing through it.

      1. Yeah, a little more nuanced than that maybe. “Gaslighting is a form of psychological manipulation that seeks to sow seeds of doubt in a targeted individual or in members of a targeted group, making them question their own memory, perception, and sanity. Using persistent denial, misdirection, contradiction, and lying, it attempts to destabilize the victim and delegitimize the victim’s belief”

Shorthand for what we get: “You going to believe us, or your own lying eyes?”

Stopped watching cable news years ago. CNN, Fox, the works. I’ll watch it if there’s something cool like a rocket launch. Otherwise, I don’t need my information filtered through somebody else’s kidneys first. I’d drop the local newspaper if it wasn’t for the comics and my wife’s crossword.

Bikkie answers to a higher, purer morality than most people can comprehend. That it usually expresses itself in fisticuffs and physical beatings obscures its purity behind a scrim of easily-misunderstood violence. Misunderstanding Bikkie is not just lethal, but distinctly painful. A manifestation of the higher justice.
