And as we learned in Star Trek “Savage Curtain” both sides may use the same tactics, but he outcome is very different. So if you first meet them they may not be immediately identifiable… Leinglo November 1, 2018 at 12:52 am 1 year ago If Jibbz doesn’t think much of Earth culture, then where did he get a term like Chaotic Neutral from? Is someone secretly a D&D fan? Coyoty November 1, 2018 at 1:04 am 1 year ago The translator bugs came up with a similar analogy to what Jibbz was actually saying. Hwan was probably hearing “chaotic neutral”, while Bikkie heard something about crazy wetas, while Jansler heard another analogy. Or maybe, like gin and tonic or Swedish meatballs, every culture in the universe has a version of D&D in it. Knicholas November 1, 2018 at 8:01 am 1 year ago “Gaslight” is even more incongruous, given that it is based on a work of Earth fiction. DSL November 1, 2018 at 11:26 am 1 year ago It sounds better in the original Klingon, anyway. Christopher Baldwin November 1, 2018 at 1:57 pm 1 year ago What @Coyoty said, the chip translates things into the best analogous word/phrase. 🙂 Coyoty November 1, 2018 at 1:06 am 1 year ago “See, Bikkie? I saved the most important one for you.” “Okay, we good. Bikkie not disappointed now.” 0z79 November 1, 2018 at 1:19 am 1 year ago Amen to that. Jude November 1, 2018 at 2:20 am 1 year ago Well, I for one didn’t know what gaslight in meant. I’m Canadian and very grateful not to live in the States. I keep up on news by reading rather than TV, and mostly world news. But I avoid anything to do with Trump. I can read the headlines as it pertains to him and I don’t want to know more about him. He’s a malicious manipulative buffoon (the 2nd definition according to Mirriam-Webster “a gross and usually ill-educated or stupid person acting like a ridiculous buffoon”). Learning about anything he does only makes me feel anger so I don’t bother. TB November 1, 2018 at 1:30 pm 1 year ago The actual definition of “gaslighting” is trying to convince a sane person that they’re crazy. It’s based on a play called “Gaslight.” It’s widely spread throughout the political world on all sides, and more than a few headlines have this as a goal as well. Most unfortunately, we can’t take the Bikkie approach, and have to settle for seeing through it. Christopher Baldwin November 1, 2018 at 1:55 pm 1 year ago Yeah, a little more nuanced than that maybe. “Gaslighting is a form of psychological manipulation that seeks to sow seeds of doubt in a targeted individual or in members of a targeted group, making them question their own memory, perception, and sanity. Using persistent denial, misdirection, contradiction, and lying, it attempts to destabilize the victim and delegitimize the victim’s belief” TB November 1, 2018 at 8:04 pm 1 year ago Shorthand for what we get: “You going to believe us, or your own lying eyes?” Stopped watching cable news years ago. CNN, Fox, the works. I’ll watch it if there’s something cool like a rocket launch. Otherwise, I don’t need my information filtered through somebody else’s kidneys first. I’d drop the local newspaper if it wasn’t for the comics and my wife’s crossword. Dar November 1, 2018 at 9:53 pm 1 year ago We going political here or just enjoying Spacetrawler? Christopher Baldwin November 1, 2018 at 10:11 pm 1 year ago Fair enough. I just closed comments. Peter Rogan November 1, 2018 at 2:05 pm 1 year ago Bikkie answers to a higher, purer morality than most people can comprehend. That it usually expresses itself in fisticuffs and physical beatings obscures its purity behind a scrim of easily-misunderstood violence. Misunderstanding Bikkie is not just lethal, but distinctly painful. A manifestation of the higher justice. Owen Smith November 1, 2018 at 3:21 pm 1 year ago Bikkie for Secretary General of the UN!
