CBob May 15, 2019 at 4:31 am 2 years ago I learned “pong” from “Footrot Flats” collections my dad brought back from an international work trip (he was a scientist, so “business trip” doesn’t feel like the right term) when I was little. It is indeed fun slang, and I enjoy using it when I have the opportunity. Gregg Eshelman May 15, 2019 at 5:23 am 2 years ago So, you like odd slang, eh? Look up “Boontling”. It’s a whole slang language that originated in Boone County, California. Christopher Baldwin May 15, 2019 at 11:00 am 2 years ago @CBob, maybe a chance to use one of my favorite rare-used terms: a busman’s holiday. 🙂 TB May 15, 2019 at 4:48 pm 2 years ago “Pong” is a British thing. I think I first saw it in some comic by Alan Moore or someone like that. I’m hoping you also check out Studio Ghibli’s “When Marnie Was There.” I haven’t read the book yet myself, and I’d be curious how they match up. Christopher Baldwin May 23, 2019 at 1:11 pm 2 years ago @TB, I’d seen it twice, which is what made me curious about the book! It is an adaptation, and I kinda adore both although for some-same some-different reasons. TB May 25, 2019 at 1:12 am 2 years ago That’s kind of similar to the Ghibli treatment of “Howl’s Moving Castle” compared with the original book. Of course, Miyazaki has to be forgiven for injecting his beloved flying machines into almost everything. They are pretty cool. Peter Rogan May 16, 2019 at 1:53 pm 2 years ago Aaack! Aaack! Mouthparts! Mouthparts!! Aaaaaaaack! pbarnrob June 14, 2019 at 1:39 am 2 years ago I learned Pong (not the video-game, the word) from that dear old BBC barrister, _Rumpole_.
