Every now and then deep philosophical moral questions have very simple answers.

Heh, I’ve had more than one person try to convince me I wasn’t a half-witted nincompoop. I’ve yet to see sufficient evidence presented that would be acceptable in a properly moderated debate or court of law (the court of public opinion is one I have no respect and much derision for.)

The trick to becoming powerful is fooling people into believing you’re NOT a half-witted nincompoop.

The trick to STAYING powerful is fooling people into believing every half-witted, nincompoopish thing you do is brilliant.

The problem with simple solutions is that we are decidedly NOT a simple people. There will always be people who, for reasons good, bad, or incomprehensible, cannot conform. And from there the problem continues, or mutates, or both, until it becomes large enough to deal with again.

Don’t ever think it’s gonna get simpler than that.

Never attribute to malice that which can be shown to be incompetence.
    (or something like that)

Heinlein’s Second Law states: Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity. Helps prevent getting personal about idiots and their mistakes.

But I find Heinlein’s First Law more compelling: Never underestimate the power of human stupidity. To which I add my own corollary: Fools rush in where fools have gone before.

But yas doesn’t have to be human to recognize stupidity and its power. No matter how dumb, self-destructive and crippling the mistake, you can be assured some other idiot is going to do the same thing, with more people, and sooner than you can be ready. Not to quote Dr. Fate here, but: Prepare yourselves.
