Thoos is getting more and more frustrating to be around.” Lasper said, “Of course. But I think Val is still feeling tender about having seen us kissing. Would you mind just keeping to my private quarters?” Grinning slyly, Picknar said, “You’re not thinking of joining me, are you?” A little put off, Lasper said, “That wasn’t what I had in mine. No.” Picknar said, “Fair. Okay. Yeah. Being around Val isn’t helping her get her head straight. And being around you with these stupid hormones isn’t helping me get my head straight either. Why does everything seem idiotic right now?” Lasper said, “I think it’s a law of nature that sometimes life needs to allow some idiocies into the room.” Miffed at it all, Picknar said, “Yeah, well, the room has been getting pretty crowded lately.”

I work on old tractors in the Idibarn. Looked good at that auction and I won it cheap. Because I missed something others spotted. So, while in the Idibarn, having to do far more work that I thought it would need, I call myself an Idiot. A lot and often.

Idiocy is perennial as the grass. It’s always going to come in through cracks you didn’t even see, that you would swear were blocked off. Inconstant thought meets irresistible impulse and they collide with mistaken urgency. And voila! A new hole in the wall of your supposedly-rational domicile. You simply have to plan for idiocy to be present each and every time you attempt something of importance. Failing to do so is the biggest idiocy of them all, next to which the army of gasping foolishness that follows will be a cooling breeze in a heat wave. Cope or die.
