10/05/26 – No Time Like The Present

|

Stopping in front of a closed door, Napforth pointed down a side hallway and said, "Pkay, down there is the loiter room. All of you escorts need to wait there. Only staff are allowed beyond this point." As Rodrigo headed towards the loiter room, he furtively passed a door keycard and the small maroon object off to Picknar and said, "Have fun! Ta-ta!" Napforth looks over themself and said, "And as for the Starslicks? Keep close to me. I have the keycard which will get us through each door. Um. Actually. Hold on. I don't seem to have my keycard on me." Napforth then pulled out a gun and said, "Ugh. I guess there's no time like the present. Well, Thoos. I'm now going to kill your parents just like I told you I would. I was still trying to figure out how to kill them, and then I heard they were coming here, to my very own workplace!" Audri said, "Oh! You're the one who sent that blackmail letter I heard about!" Napforth said, "Exactly my point! You only 'heard' about it. So lazy and privileged that you even have someone else read your blackmail letters for you."

So, yeah. The blackmail letter. I may have mentioned it in more places than these three times, but they are the three off the top of my head:

Good job Audrey! Distract the guard until Spizz can jump in and save Heakie and Porpa. No doubt those two will be so grateful … oh. Have we seen anything that shows those two can feel gratitude?

If Napforth threatened to reveal some secret about Thoos or Thoos’ parents unless Thoos met Napforth’s demands, whatever they might be, that’d be blackmail in the contemporary understanding of the word. Threatening to kill Thoos’ parents would further induce Thoos to do what Napforth wanted.

So you could still categorize what Napforth has done as blackmail IF you (eventually) let the audience in on what Napforth demanded and how Thoos responded. Agreeing to a mind-body swap to avoid the consequences of failing to meet a blackmailer’s demands would be in keeping with Thoos’ character.

And why would she care if her parents are killed? So long as she isn’t killed. That’d make her rich, and the extortionist if they don’t kill it.

    Need some pronouns here.

Tiths seem to be jolly folks all the way around.

Oh, splendid! The McGuffin was only a distraction from a far more deeply-buried McGuffin now sprung! This complicates the whole thing wonderfully, and while we’re pondering how much better the Galaxy would be without Heaki and Porpa, we forget what the purple doohickey might have been expected to do, and does it really matter once the Starslick moguls are effed off? I mean!
