Apologies for posting this late. It’s a ridiculously silly gag, but I was too charmed by it not to do it, this silly boring repetitiveness of this part of the chase. And dear lord was it slow going (I didn’t think it’d work as well is I copy-and-pasted) and good lord #2 was it tedious to draw, it took ALL my attention to keep going. And I’m not even sure if I pulled it off. But I’m still tickled by it.

-Stopping in front of a thick metal door, Lasper said, “And then the dozen thick steel doors.” Opening it with the keycard, Picknar said, “if the alarm goes off, they shut, and that’s it.” the door opens, and when they get to the next door Napforth appears around the corner and shoots at them, misses, and the door slams in Napforth’s face. This repeats numerous times. Weary with it, Picknar asked, “How many doors did you say th-” and Lasper cuts Picknar off by saying, “Twelve.”

The Get Smart theme song started to play in my head about halfway through. 😀
Sorry about that, Chief! So, the gag is working great. Someone *does* need to get their nose caught in a door at the end to complete the gag. I vote for Mr. Can’t Shoot Straight there.
How is Napforth opening the doors back up behind them? They stole the access card.
I think they cloned it. Rodrigo appeared to be stealing the card while patting Napforth the first time, and returning it while patting them the second time.
The intervening doors are still open, so I think Napforth is running after them, just beating the doors as they swipe closed from our crew having opened them.
Nice try, Efogoto! The doors slam behind our crew in frames 4, 7, 9, 12 & 14!
It’s like the Scooby Doo doors gag.
I think the Door Gag predated old Scooby there. 😉
Probably originated in Vaudeville.
Looks like Napforth’s stormtrooper shoot training paid off.
If the doors all shut when the alarm sounds, why doesn’t Napforth just hit the alarm instead of embarrassing himself with his poor shooting skills?
I think the drawing works well to illustrate (sic) the boring dangerous repetitiveness of it all. Not unlike the old Warner Brothers cartoon where Bugs dodges through a piledriver time after time, the killer robot ever closer on his heels… until it ends up a bucket of bent bolts Bugs returns to its maker. Good times, good times… from fifty years ago. Nurse! My Doan’s Pills, quickly!
Back trouble, Pete? Good gosh I remember Doan’s Pills ads … during the Jack LaLanne Show I think.
As anyone who has lived through Haruhi Suzumiya’s Endless Eight or the middle of Ergo Proxy, sometimes there is, indeed, no end in sight, and that is simply alll you get. Live with it.
