12/14/11 Nogg and Pierrot Depart

|

Well, I’ve name-dropped “Qwahntoo” several times now. I mentioned that it he was who enslaved the Eebs, and showed here the creature who enslaved the eebs. So, I think several of you pieced together. I wasn’t really keeping it a mystery for dramatic tension or anything, as much as I wanted book #2 to keep focused on Kuu-Drahc as the figurehead of the evil empire. Expect much more of Qwahntoo in book #3.

If you wish to re-read everything on him, click on the Qwahntoo “tag” or click here for the tag page. I have gone back in and added his name to (hopefully) all the times he appeared or was mentioned.

And if you wanted any merchandise before Christmas, the shipping deadlines are coming fast and furious. At the top of MY STORE, you’ll see a shipping deadline (noon today/Wednesday is the last day for UPS ground).

I’m going to a reading book group today. We’ve read “Slaughterhouse 5.” Kinda excited as I’ve never gone to a reading group before. Yay! :)

@Jordan, hm. I didn’t mean that part to be tricky. The eebs largely clamped themselves, he just finished the jobs and officially clamped/enslaved them. Not sure I’ll go into it in more detail, but I might-re-read everything and tweak it a bit.

I don’t know really know what to this about this Kuu-Drahc deathbed confession. Part of me thinks it might be genuine. He may look like an invert but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have a skeleton to crush under his skin. The other part of me thinks he’s being a crafty bastard. In fact, it’s interesting that he chose to deliver it when Nogg arrived, given his past history of manipulating Nogg’s naivete.

Don’t know what to think. However I’m glad that Pierrot has finally got his priorities straight! Hooray! Go help Emily! Not that she really needs it but I think some part of her will appreciate the clumsy efforts regardless.

Speaking of books – have you read any of the Retief series by Keith Laumer? Retief is a minor instersteller diplomat who is always stopping plots by much less clever aliens. Like many Laumer stories, humans hold there own pretty well amongst a bunch of strange aliens. I think there are a lot of similarities in this strip and the Laumer stories.

I recently read some Retief, and remember buying “Retief and the Warlords” back in middle school because i thought the cover was funny, but have no recollection if I actually read it. But I REALLY should read some more, i think it’s right up my alley. ๐Ÿ™‚

Free Keith Laumer books right here. http://www.baen.com/library/klaumer.htm The big collection Reteif! contains sixteen short stories and the novel “Reteif’s War”. That’s not all of Reteif. There’s some other stores and novels, including “The Pan-Galactic Pageant of Pulchritude”.

One odd note about Reteif, the very first tale Laumer wrote with the character is the last one, making all the rest of them prequels.

Lots more free Baen ebooks at baencd.thefifthimperium.com Somewhere around 200 in total. No other publisher gives away so much, has no DRM on any of their ebooks, or offers them in multiple formats. It’s been such good business for Baen, many people pay anyway for the ebooks they can get for free. Lots of them buy both the ebook and dead tree versions.

Sure says something about trusting your customers and making reading convenient VS making reading inconvenient and treating them all as if they’re trying to rob you blind.
