Red-9 is such a complex character, and yet always kind-of seemingly in the background. I am always curious about her when I write her.

Now Red-9 regrets telling Dimitri “She’s your daughter!” so many times when Devyat took after him.
With great power comes a comeuppance you will not believe.
Or, per Robert Heinlein channeling James Branch Cabell, “In the kingdom of the blind the one-eyed man is in for one hell of a rough ride.”
Now Red-9 needs to give Devyat two different colored headscarfs, and when she wears one Red-9 can look at her and say, “Nu? You didn’t like the other one?”
Red-9 is pretty steamed about her daughter, Devyat, acting all selfless to save others and risking her own life to do it. When Red-9 and her people gave their lives for slavery they were ruthlessly and thoughtlessly used for. The new generation has no idea what the previous generation has experienced. And even if told it doesn’t have the same impact as living it. Time for some mind-to-mind technology to give the new generation a taste of the old. In the mean time Dimitri is probably proud of his little girl.
It’s an interesting theme to explore, let me tell you.
