01/24/11 Pierrot’s Imminent Release

|

If this feels a bit like some re-cap, that’s because it is. I am doing some minor re-cap of character and story because not only is this an ongoing webcomic, but I’m also collecting it in separate books with somewhat standalone plots (although the entire thing is one big story). Okay, nipped that question in the bud.

Hello new readers from SMBC (“Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal” to those unfamiliar, a very funny comic)! And thanks Zach for the link. ๐Ÿ™‚

Speaking of Zach, I am still doing M-W-F fill-in strips for Snowflakes, and really enjoying drawing their fun characters, so check that out.

Also, if you haven’t heard, Chris Hallbeck of The Book of Biff has a new comic out Maximumble. Looks awesome, Chris!

I did hear back from my printer, Spacetrawler Book #1 is scheduled to be shipped from them February 2nd if all goes smoothly. So, expect that to go up for sale hopefully in early-to-mid February. Exxxxxcitement! ๐Ÿ™‚

Also on the Spacetrawler frontier, CWCobalt left a comment last Wednesday on a strip he purchased. For those of you unaware, the original artwork for any strip can be bought for a MERE eighty bucks (info below each strip). But don’t listen to me, read his comment

“Hey Chris, Iโ€™m the guy who bought this wonderful piece of original art. One of your best strips, I think, due to the dynamic composition and dramatic angles. Scans donโ€™t do your original work justice โ€” the sepia tones, brushwork and even the lettering are a joy to see in detail. It will look wonderful (and inspiring) nicely framed on the wall in my studio. And a VERY fair price for such a great piece. I am a happy camper. Looking forward to your book! Onward to Book 2!”

Thanks CWCobalt!

Stumbled upon your webcomic a couple of days ago, and only caught up yesterday. Just wanted to say, awesome artwork, I’m hooked and looking forward to more. Can’t wait for the next one ๐Ÿ˜€

Also, love the interaction between Pierrot and the potty bot. This update came out while I was in class, and I giggled while I was reading it.

Another new fan here, Every other comic left me shaking with laughter. Rather than list all the best parts, I’ll ask a question. Regarding the approxiscan’s sexual compatibility measurements, are they general interspecies numbers, or does it take individual information into account? I’d love to see a breather episode where Dimitri checks the percentage of the other humans, There’s plenty of potential there, especially if they treated it like a party game, some unexpected percentages would drive shippers wild, and the rest of us into laughter.

@terry, good. I love to hear when I interrupt things with humor. ๐Ÿ™‚
@Catinthewall, I have not precisely defined the approxiscan’s capability. But your idea made me laugh. I’ll have to think on that one.
@Jordan, so true! Hrm. Even in our own sane little world too.
Thanks, @Marianna! And it would be lovely to see you, drop on by!

    Speaking of chocolate pudding…

I highly recommend reading “Packing for Mars: The Curious Science of Life in the Void” by Mary Roach. It’s a book that covers all those nasty little “what ifs” involved in space travel that most people just don’t like to think about: how does “excrement egress” work in zero gravity? What happens when you go without showering or bathing for a month? What happens if you vomit in your suit while on a spacewalk? And just how edible WERE those early astronaut meals? (Here’s a clue: most of the researchers into “space food” got their start making foods for the veterinary market. Astronaut chow.)

I’m bringing this up because one of the first and biggest impediments the long-term astronauts had to overcome was the realization that this clear, sparkling, and tasty water you were drinking had been passed by your crewmates a day or so earlier.

  5. RIP Potty bot. August 20, 2007–September 29, 2010; and again October 18, 2010–January 24, 2011

Also, just noticed that the potty bot is not tagged on the 2010/09/19 strip, nor on the 2010/10/17 strip. In fact, it appears no one is tagged in the latter one!

Just show that the Eeb’s will refuse to do some things. Like their secret. That would be enough since Eebs will comply with any other order. That would be shocking enough to them.
