As you can see, I’m working on a webpage re-design. My main first goal was to upgrade WordPress and Comicpress, which I managed to get done and it seems to function (thanks to Corey for help on the WordPress). Next is to actually work on making it all more navigable. We’ll see how that goes. Still (always) open to ideas.

If you haven’t done so yet, make sure to check out Snowflakes where I have been illustrating the dialogue and story by Zach Weiner and James Ashby (and drawing from the characters designed by Chris Jones). Monday and Wednesday will be my last two strips for the fill-in. Check it out!

Also, Erika Moen (Dar) and Jeff Parker have a new comic out called Bucko. Self-dubbed “a dick and fart joke murder-mystery.” So be sure to check that out.

And a last link, for those who love Totoro as well as despair.

I know it may be a revenue thing and I’ll understand if it’s necessary, but I really don’t like the ad banner at the top of the page. It makes the page look cluttered and crowds out the banner on the right. It may be habit, but my reader expectation kinda rebels at an advertisement being the very first thing I see when I come to a site. I’d rather the first thing be something related to the comic.

    Just my 2 cents. 🙂

    1. WHAT road?
All you noticed is that the vehicle probably fabricated by and for the humans (if not built by Yuri herself) has the steering wheel on the left.

…Which, actually, might imply Yuri DIDN’T build it, since she comes from Japan, where they drive on the left, and put steering wheels on the right. Although import cars (such as convertibles, as this thing resembles) are still street legal if their drivers seat is on the other side.

Yeaay! Emily’s coat is fixed! I wonder if she had the Eebs put in any fancy tech.

@Rags, you act like that’s something odd or unusual. I live in a city called “the Athens of the Midwest”, where the sidewalks downtown have inset brass markers with literary quotes, that is only the third “UNESCO City of Literature” in the world, and has more bookstores than Starbucks. It’s not bad, except the Saturday-night brawls invariably grow from discussions over who’s the better author, some guy from South America no-one has ever heard of who is writing in Magical Realism style, or some girl from Africa no-one has ever heard of who is writing in Realistic Magic style. I kid you not when I say that murders have occurred here over chess games; so to be subjected to a drive-by (fly-by? hover-by?) shooting based on what author you’re reading is considered a bit extreme but justifiable.

And @Nick Bacon, yes, they do. Except here they are called “Kings’ Hooves” (note the placement of the apostrophe; consult an English grammar textbook if necessary) and the smaller measurement is based on the width of the smallest leftmost protuberance, which is remarkably consistent from individual to individual and which is why they drive on the right side, so they can measure things as they pass by.

@StewartP, I’m sorry, but I have a hard time keeping “middle-of-the-road” and “France” in the same sentence regarding anything.

Besides, it sounds too much like the ranchers in Montana. It’s nothing political, they just take their half of the road out of the middle.

@Meander, I got the RSS working for every strip up to today’s. Not sure why, except that something must have happened in the upgrade. Will continue to look into it. **edit** FIXED! **edit**

Fair enough, @Dave. I don’t care for ads either, and wish I didn’t have to have them. But it’s become a bit of a fiscal necessity. But I assure you, if it doesn’t bring in enough money to make it worth their presence, I’ll take ’em down.

This is a clear misuse of the term evolved. Every animal evolved from its ancestors, with the exception of a hypothetical animal that was genetically engineered from scratch by another being. A better translation of whatever he said would be “Don’t shoot anything sapient.” His literary opinion of the reader is just as funny, and it’s clear he just has different standards of sapience, rather than being translated into a completely unrelated word.

Good idea, @Foo. For now I’m trying a graphic divider, to see how that feels.

@Catinthewall, I’d argue that “evolved” is often used to mean “evolved into a higher being than the rest of those idiots.” But I see your point. 🙂

  7. Wait, which humans wanted to go home? I know Dustin probably does, but everyone else has reasons to stay. Martina was made acting captain by Nogg, Dmitri has… unexplored opportunities, Yuri has the advanced technologies, and Emily has Pierrot back at the G.O.B.

By the way, love the new layout! It suits the comic pretty well, I think.

  8. Hilarious.

Regarding the top ad, how about Project Wonderful, or down the side? I think part of the reason the top banner is so unsightly is because it’s the same colour as the rest of the website and is filled with multicoloured text.

I like the divider … *Thumbs Up*
although, perhaps, on thinking on it, I think I’d like the same at top of page for the same of symmetry.
While you are at it, may I have a pecan danish?
And a cup of tea, Black with one sugar.
    and …

considering I’m getting the content for free, I’d say to run all the ads you want…double them up if you want…you deserve to make a buck too…let me know if clicking on them occasionally helps you out as well. If a few distractions and clicks keeps you in business that’s quite fine by me.

  11. @cat in the wall: That’s why it’s funny!

    @Chris: They wear socks?

@Herandar: They’re pretty high off the ground, they’ve just sped though lightyears of space being pushed by a similar inferno, and most importantly, Yuri is driving 🙂

@Chigcpa: actually, I think Google policy is to not pay people who tell their readers to click on the ads. I don’t know how they detect it, nor if they apply it to the whole website, but wouldn’t risk it.

@Prior Semblance: d’oh!! The obvious passes by me in a blur!! OK, the steering wheel is the same for us frenchies, and we still drive down the centre of the road! @JKCarroll, you see what I did there?!
