For some reason, I can’t shake the feeling that Yuri and Nogg was about to start kissing when Emily entered, and that that’s the real reason Yuri is upset…

Also, it’s the wrong kind of mop for blood; a longhaired one will only spread it around – you need a wider flatter head, with a thick sponge. Also, put down sawdust or similar first.

    Don’t ask me how I know that…

Withering energy blast not as satisfying as trying to screw off Nogg’s head with a mop handle, eh? I can grok that.

Now I wonder what Emily has in mind for Yuri. I strongly suspect a proper escape is what Emily has in mind, but how Yuri can facilitate that puzzles me. Guess I’ll have to wait another day to see.

You don’t have to be old to have read that, and grok is semi-common in the world as a term these days. I was rewatching adventure time recently and noticed that Jake used it at one point. So it may not be super common now, but it definitely comes up.

I grokked some years later maybe 5-11 years or so. I need to read it again.

As for Nogg and Yuri, they could have danced a bit more before break up by a very calm Emily. Better than slipping on puddles of Nogg’s blood anyway.

Yuri really looks super mad there. Not sure we would ever see that. But it is better than her cool detached mass murder mode.

Nogg is a pain-in-the-arse but if it weren’t for him and Terra the universe would toast with jam on it eaten by the Creebrick.

It could have been worse. Like me, you could have read Heinlein’s “Job: A Comedy of Justice” after reading its inspiration, “Jurgen,” by James Branch Cabell, published 1919. Cabell’s is a nearly infinitely superior treatment of the same subject and not at all soaked in late-career melodrama and saccharine. But then, Heinlein had showed his hand at banal romance as early as “Year of the Jackpot” in 1952. How the mighty have stumbled. How painful to watch them do it in two hundred pages.
