Wow. That was one of the tougher moves I’ve ever done. But now? Gorgeous place and back to work. All is well. Christopher Baldwin February 3, 2020 at 9:21 am 6 months ago @Goudreault, yes, and Tesfay would hear it in Eritrean. But it’s presented as it is for the joke. Timothy Eisele February 3, 2020 at 9:27 am 6 months ago Well, obviously we, the audience, *also* have the kid filter turned on, so no matter who says it, “frag” will be shown as “frag” rather than “frag”. Christopher Baldwin February 3, 2020 at 9:29 am 6 months ago Yuppers. 🙂 Gregg Eshelman February 5, 2020 at 6:15 am 6 months ago “What the fork?! Why can’t I say fork? Holy forking shirtballs!” Gristle McNerd February 18, 2020 at 9:17 am 6 months ago Well, shucks. Jeffrey Klein February 3, 2020 at 12:37 am 6 months ago Ah yes, the infamous Zerhakker chip… For children and helicopters with human brains… Tim McCormack February 3, 2020 at 6:08 am 6 months ago Zerhakker’s profanity filter is far more colorful. 🙂 (From the comic Skin Horse, for people who are confused.) SomeGuy411 February 3, 2020 at 5:42 pm 6 months ago At least it’s not the Zodon chip. Swear a blue stream and you start singing showtunes. Night-Gaunt49 February 3, 2020 at 12:52 am 6 months ago Oh yes the great magical thinking fear of words which define things they cannot be bad or good. I’d say that war and rape and robbery and torture talk about terrible things that humans do. But they aren’t swear words. However using it in everyday language without a reason like fear or anger does become an inhibitory crutch on the speaker. I met someone like that once. When he had to swear it was sad seeing how those words had lost their emotional punch by over use. Coyoty February 3, 2020 at 3:00 am 6 months ago The robots in Freefall have a decency filter that covers indecent sights with black bars. With so many people around, stun would be the likely setting, to avoid having to deal with all the dead bodies or the responsibility for them or being one of them. Rikard February 3, 2020 at 11:11 am 6 months ago I get it’s a joke, that language filter thing, but still – creepy! Living in a country where people can and do go to jail for using words, terms or even stating non-approved facts…. brrr. You americans don’t know how good ypu have it eith the 1st amendment, I tell you that for free. As an eritrean, I’m quite sure Tesfay would agree. Thracecius February 3, 2020 at 3:01 pm 6 months ago I’m not sure where you live, Rikard, but you have my sympathies. Here in the USA we have the First Amendment to protect Freedom of Speech and Religion, but there are powerful politcal and social forces openly trying to destroy that Right, so we’re not without our problems. Only time will tell if reason and sanity prevails against those who seek power above all else. Meran February 3, 2020 at 6:19 pm 6 months ago Upvoted! Richard February 3, 2020 at 11:24 am 6 months ago Tinkertown Museum! Cool Christopher Baldwin February 3, 2020 at 1:25 pm 6 months ago @Richard, yes! Love Tinkertown! Buck February 3, 2020 at 11:27 am 6 months ago “Why you $%##*¿?*!!” PeterK February 3, 2020 at 11:39 am 6 months ago Those last panels are hilarious and awesome. Mitch February 3, 2020 at 3:45 pm 6 months ago A kid filter? That’s fonked up. russell styles February 3, 2020 at 7:29 pm 6 months ago As a protest, the kid should use as many curse words, as often as possible. Pete Rogan February 3, 2020 at 5:08 pm 6 months ago I’m just trying to imagine what a Zerhakker filter would sound like in Spacetrawler, and I get tangled up in the possibilities of an arcane filler word having a crucial and downright awful meaning in the local language that results in misunderstanding, crosstalk, bad feelings and thrown objects. The joke appeal is obvious, but I can see that arcane filler becoming the local synonym for ‘bad aliens’ or ‘unhygienic aliens’ or any of a dozen other bad traits you wouldn’t want to be known for. Down this route madness lies. Fun madness, mind you, but the end would still be solid “Duck Soup.” Think I’ll go back to looking at pictures of Tinkertown. What a >>ballooning<< trip. Gregg Eshelman February 5, 2020 at 6:18 am 6 months ago There were some translation problems with one of the alien races in the game Star Control 2. Their word for fighting came across as “dancing”, along with a few other unfortunate oopsies. Meran February 3, 2020 at 6:21 pm 6 months ago First panel is missing a verb: “Truer words WERE never spoken.” For when you print. 🙂 Christopher Baldwin February 3, 2020 at 6:25 pm 6 months ago @Meran, it was intentional (I have often heard it spoken this way), although I’ll consider the suggestion. 🙂 Coyoty February 4, 2020 at 3:27 am 6 months ago I think Aitana probably said the word correctly and Emily and Tesfay heard the word correctly, but the strip’s filter filtered it up.
