05/30/14 Initiating Turnaround

2014-05-30_oneway_2jgd

Thanks to Fred, again, for all the help writing science that kinda makes sense over the next few strips.

Ugh. My brain is a bit fried. Just spent the day laying out pages for the Little Dee novel. It’s like playing Tetris, now I’m seeing squares and word balloons and rearranging them in front of my eyelids when I close my eyes. Wouldn’t trade it for anything though. 🙂

Yay! One of my favorite graphic novel, Hicksville, made it on Rolling Stone’s list of 50 best non-superhero comic strips. Read his ongoing webcomic Sam Zabel and the Magic Pen. Fun!

Did I mention that when my friend Cedra came to visit that my sweetie and I went with her to the Secret Caverns, just west of Albany? Anyhow, we did. It’s not a well preserved cave, which means two things: one is that it’s cool that you can touch EVERYTHING, and the other is that the delicate ecosystem of the cave is pretty dead. But it was pretty, and amazing, and the 100 foot underground waterfall was pretty fantastic.

05/12/14 Big Deal Of Nothing

Apologies! The server died, but my web-host guy, Corey (and minions) have totally been saving the day! <3 <3 <3 <3

Back up! There may be hiccups over the next day or so while everything is tweaked, but, yay! We’re back up!

I’m writing this post on May 6th, a day before leaving to TCAF. But it’s posting after the TCAF weekend. So, we’ll assume I had a wonderful time with good friends and met a lot of amazing people, as is usually the case.

Oh, and I haven’t yet posted the update to my self-portrait, which I think I worked on May 2nd. i think I added the wall color, the lamp post, and the pussy willow stems. Oil painting is such a slow process. Paint some, wait a week for it to dry, paint some more. Fun! 🙂

05/02/14 What Angie Would’ve Done

2014-05-02_oneway_7sdd2

Been strange weather. low forties yesterday, low seventies today. Ah, spring in New England. Love it.

Went and saw “Noah” with  friend. A real mixed bag. Lotsa’ good stuff, but overall it felt like a mess. Too many characters and too much story, so it felt like nothing was done in depth enough. But, overall it was entertaining.

Oh, and I finally got around to buying a bus ticket for TCAF next weekend (a red-eye. My, won’t I be peaky!). Look for me tabling with the TopatoCo folk!

04/30/14 Sleep is The Answer

2014-04-30_oneway_9ard2

I am getting lost further and further in my head these days. Writing writing writing writing.

Now that the weather is nicer, I got one of the old bikes up and running, and rode it to play racquetball. 7 minute biking rather than a 4 minute drive. A FOUR minute drive. To hit a ball against a wall for a half hour. We are such insane creatures. We don’t deserve this planet any more.

Saw “Only Lovers Left Alive” and it was wonderful. I think it might be my favorite Jim Jarmusch yet. And worth it to see it on the big screen. It really is more of an “experience” film than a “plot” one.

Speaking of plot. have I mentioned that I’ve been writing? Oh. I have. Right then.

So, I renewed my YMCA membership this week. A little more expensive than last year, but racquetball is the only physical activity I’ve found that I seem to enjoy (and thus actually do). But it feels good, I’ve been going in a bunch. In fact, I just dusted off the bicycle, and will be zipping over to the YMCA on that rather than driving there. Yay!

Had another gaming night at my friend Charlotte’s, where I got to play Sheepshead again. I do love a good strategy game, and that has JUST enough to be both strategic but social.

Started a new painting this weekend. One of my two siblings and myself. It’s my first painting where I’ve tried painting on a dark background, and I have to admit, I think I really love doing that. Here’s what I got so far. 🙂

04/07/14 Orion’s Job

2014-04-07_oneway_9edfe2

Had a full weekend. Started a new painting.

have been swatting over the “theme” of the website. You’ll find the entire archive is available, but I don’t have links (or decent navigation) or the design up yet. But will try to have that done today (Monday)!

03/31/14 Walking Outside

2014-03-31_oneway_9sdj2

Had a nice weekend. Made more muffins. Hung out with my sweetie and two friends, and we walked through Saratoga Springs up to the Tang Museum at Skidmore College. I was excited to see the Ben Katchor originals, but they were only prints. :(

Did a couple of watercolors in a cafe this weekend. One of a lighthouse in Ireland (I think it was somewhere north of Dublin), and the other from a road trip I took (YEARS ago) with my sister in Alaska.

03/26/14 Orion’s Dream

2014-03-26_oneway_1hhe

This strip was actually (loosely) based on a dream I had. It put me in a very off-kilter mood for the day.

Tuesday is severely-reduced-price tickets every week at the Saratoga theaters, and The Grand Budapest Hotel finally came to town. What a delight! :)

Phew! I got back in the studio drawing. It’s been 3 weeks. Too long (none on spring break, and then missed last week because working on deadlines). Below is the “safe for work” version. For the NSFW version, click here.
