I’ll be at Rose City Comic Con in Portland, OR this weekend, table #526. Come stop by!

So, I’ll be traveling until October 7th. I am pretty much done with all the strips during this period (been working hard), so there shouldn’t be any delays in posting the strip (well, assuming there are no technical difficulties).

09/12/14 Out Of Their Shells

Sweetie has been away on a trip, so I’ve been working every night until I drop. Nice to get caught up on things, and nice to get ahead right before I take a trip myself (next weekend I’ll be tabling at Rose City Comic Con). Also nice to not really worry about dishes for two weeks. 😉

But tonight I went out to see a bluegrass trio, Harpeth Rising. Very enjoyable.

09/03/14 Language Work

After two years of giving in to the fact that our shower is either burning hot or freezing cold, today I actually found that i could make it be merely “cool.” All of a sudden I feel like I got a diplomatic immunity card in the country called life.

Another oil painting. I went to studio-model thing again on Monday. This one is 11×14. As before, due to requests of not showing nudity on the main page, the “NSFW” version can be found here. (along with “see-the-process” images)

8/25/14 On Being Brave

I don’t watch a lot of movies these days, but it ended up being an interesting weekend for movies. We watched a Swiss sci-fi film “Cargo” which was pretty dang engaging and visually cool. The plot tension seemed to be trying to be more tense than I felt it effectively was. but I liked the story and ideas and characters. And then we watched “Boyhood” which you’d probably only like if you like Linklater. And I do (well, the “before” trilogy at least). but also, it was a fascinating project, filming it over YEARS so you actually got to see the kid grow up. Reminiscent of the “Seven Up” series.

Oh, we also watched “Oblivion” with Tom Cruise. Pretty, but… the story and characters just didn’t feel like they held together.

Saw the talented Anthime Miller at Rock Hill on Saturday, and it was truly lovely (imagine the love-child of Chet Baker and Antony and the Johnsons on cello). Afterwards I bumped into some friends and we got wine. It was just that kind of awesome weekend.

08/11/14 Giving All Or A Jerk

A nice mellow weekend. A local theater company performed “Taming of the Shrew” in the park down in Saratoga Springs. A fun light treatment of it. and a friend invited me to see “A Most Wanted Man,” which reminded me of the all the nordic detective shows and movies I’ve loved. Played some racquetball, went on a long bike ride with my sweetie (who roller skated the whole way).

And Monday rolls around again, along with a week crammed with inking the Little Dee graphic novel. I am ready for it! 🙂

08/08/14 Before You Die

Busy times. Met up with the co-organizers for the “drawing theater productions” thing, and we discussed how the season went and what ideas we had for next year. Some black gesso I ordered arrived, and so I coated all the blank canvases I have. Had an excellent idea for my novel, and so I did a quick edit throughout it integrating the idea. Inked a crap-load more Little Dee pages. played racquetball. Made soup. Cleaned house.

Where the heck all this energy came from is beyond me.

Don’t forget i have a Patreon! The postcards level is awesome.

08/06/14 Duty to Cheer

Go, Dr. Abigail Allwood! Leading NASA’s search for life on Mars. From everything I’ve read she’s super smart, and it’s so nice to see more and more women getting recognition in science.

Heck, it’s just been an exciting space exploration week. The European spacecraft “Rosetta” is nearing a comet, where it’s going to send a little exploration unit. How cool is that?

Also, Monday night I did an 8″x8″ oil painting using a live model. I am very pleased. For those who have requested it, the image below is “safe for work” click HERE for the “NSFW.”

08/04/14 Task for Orion

2014-08-04_oneway_8djh

Monday is Monday is Monday. And frankly, I wouldn’t mind having Monday a dozen times this week, I might be able to get on top of things.

Cool news about the new Cannae Space Drive. IF the experiments are correct, currently it can only move about two eyelashes, but still, breaking Newton’s 3rd law of conservation of momentum would be HUGE. Neat stuff. Curious if it’ll test out in the end (good to keep some skepticism on this one, even if it IS super exciting).

Sunday we went to the Hudson River Music Hall to see a viola/piano performance. it was lovely (there was this Bach piece which was so moving).

07/28/14 Trend Setters

Another quiet weekend. I made caramel corn, and we watched “All The Little Animals” (Christian Bale was around 23, so young!). We took a few walks: over to the graveyard and to a cafe. I doodled here and there, and deeply contemplated my novel (which has a few questions I need to answer before I can move on with it).
